Fall Anime 2013 – Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wo Ketsui Shimashita. – Episode 1 Impressions

Just when you thought Fall might have missed out on the obligatory lets-give-this-anime-a-gratuitously-long-title show, Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wo Ketsui Shimashita shows up. I will hereby call it YuuShibu for short. Although probably not for long because I doubt I’ll be writing about it again.

YuuShibu, aka JiggleJiggleJiggle: The Animation, is an ecchi series following a group of heroes who, for somewhat bureaucratic reasons, can no longer be heroes and have to work in retail instead. The setting immediately reminded me of last season’s Hataraku! Maou-sama! – seemingly powerful characters are thrust into a mundane working environment, and hilarity ensues. Although this time it didn’t quite work out so well.

YuuShibu’s jokes were few and far between. Instead there was more of a focus on ecchi, which seems to be the main drawcard of the show. The male lead (Raul) is not unlikable, but I found the female lead (Fino) to be irritating 90% of the time. A small handful of other characters were introduced, but just as quickly forgotten as the episode focused on Raul an Fino for the most part. The quality of animation and background music was ok though.

From what we saw in episode 1, YuuShibu has very little going for it besides ecchi. If this is what you’re looking for then rejoice! But don’t expect too much else. I have no issues with ecchi – but there is already a bunch of much more interesting shows out this season that deserve your attention over this one.
